What is
Work IN Roads?

Work IN Roads is a collaborative initiative between industry, federal, state and local agencies and other organizations to advocate, educate and provide resources for heavy, highway and utility construction workforce development efforts.

Our Goal

Our goal is to inform K-12 and college students, their parents and other key influencers about the broad career paths available in this industry statewide. We support the pipeline by providing a platform that increases awareness and connects students to employers, ultimately providing better roads, better careers and a better living.

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans $150 million of work on our state’s highways this year. This is all a part of Gov. Eric Holcomb’s five-year, $4.7 billion road maintenance and construction plan that was launched in 2017.

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to resurface nearly 10,000 miles of roadway and repair or replace about 1,300 bridges. That construction doesn’t include the additional $342 million annually the state is allocating to cities and counties for local projects.
